According to the explosion protection guidelines, an explosion protection document is required for plants and work areas in which explosive mixtures may occur. The explosion protection document must be created or updated before commissioning or before changes are made to work equipment and work processes. We help you not to lose the overview here and to meet the requirements for the creation of the explosion protection document p
If there is a risk of explosive atmospheres in the company, the employer is obliged to create an explosion protection document or have it created. Such an explosion protection document initially serves as proof that a company has taken the necessary precautions to ensure explosion protection.

We are your contact for your questions regarding the creation of explosion protection documents and the storage and handling of numerous substances that have a high hazard potential due to their labeling. Give us a call! We will be happy to advise you free of charge in order to determine your specific needs together with you.
From the determination of explosion hazards to the preparation of Ex zone plans and the development of protective measures, we take over all relevant activities for the preparation of your explosion protection document/concept.
All documents and protective measures are stored in an explosion protection concept. In this way, you create legal certainty and meet your legal obligations.
With the clear dashboard of the compliance platform, you always have an overview of the processing status. You can set deadlines and assign tasks to specific contacts. All data and documents come together here. When visiting the authorities, all documents can be handed over easily and there are no delays. You can save time and nerves. Even if a new contact person comes along, no data can be lost.
The creator of an explosion protection document must have a high level of professional qualification. Frank Czychon and Paul Röhling are specialists for occupational safety and fire protection officers and have both the expertise and years of experience in the preparation of explosion protection documents.

The explosion protection document describes the appropriate precautions to ensure explosion protection in a plant.
The preparation of an explosion protection document is a requirement of the Industrial Safety Regulation in connection with the risk assessment. It must be available for all potentially explosive atmospheres and demonstrate that the explosion hazards have been identified and assessed and that suitable precautions have been taken to achieve the explosion protection objectives. The explosion protection document must be prepared by the employer before work begins, regardless of the number of employees.
In § 6 (11) of the GefStoffV it is specified that the risk assessment may only be carried out by a competent person. In addition, there is the note: operators/entrepreneurs who do not have this knowledge or do not trust themselves to prepare it must seek expert advice.
§ 2 Para. 16 GefStoffV: “A person is deemed to be competent if he or she has the necessary specialist knowledge to perform a task specified in this Ordinance. The requirements for expertise depend on the respective type of task. The requirements include appropriate professional training, professional experience or a relevant professional activity performed in a timely manner, as well as participation in specific training measures.”
The risk assessment with regard to explosion protection and thus also the explosion protection document must be reviewed “regularly”; how often is not specified. If production processes, substances or plant/plant components change frequently, an annual “self-test” is recommended; for infrequent changes, a biennial one. This must be documented in writing, stating the date.
Qualified persons for explosion protection assume an important role for operational safety. You will learn to recognize hazards and master all the technical rules that a competent person for explosion protection testing must know in accordance with Annex 2 Section 3 No. 3.1 BetrSichV. In addition, you will become familiar with the legal background and regulations. Using practical examples, a competent person for explosion protection deepens his knowledge and ensures that he can implement everything immediately in everyday operations.
In the case of hazards due to explosive atmospheres, an activity-related risk assessment must be prepared in accordance with the German Occupational Health and Safety Act (ArbSchG) and a risk assessment in accordance with the German Hazardous Substances Ordinance (GefStoffV). Both together form the basis for the explosion protection document.
The legal basis can be found again in the:
- Ordinance on Hazardous Substances (GefStoffV) § 6 Para. 9, § 11 and Annex I No.1
- Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV) § 9, Annex 2 Section 3 No. 5.1
- DGUV Regulation 1 § 3
- TRBS 2152 Part 1
- DGUV Regulation 113-001
If there is a risk of explosive atmospheres in the plant, the employer is obliged to prepare an explosion protection document. This applies to the storage and handling of numerous substances that have a high hazard potential due to their labeling. As soon as the occurrence of an explosive atmosphere can no longer be ruled out, the employer must ensure that an explosion protection document is drawn up.
Such an explosion protection document initially serves as proof that a company has taken the necessary precautions to ensure explosion protection. This corresponds to a legal requirement that must be complied with according to the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances and the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health. According to these regulations, a company must prepare an explosion protection document. This is particularly required in various plants in the chemical industry. In such a document, the explosion hazards should be evaluated and a suitable protective measure should be specified for each hazard.
